Well, since I don't get to post a poll about the new Supernatural episode today, how about something we haven't done in a long time. Let's pick the most rewatchable episode of season 9!

caranfindel: (Default)
Length: about 8000 words
Rating: R for language
Characters: Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, Castiel
Spoilers: Through season 9
Synopsis: Dean's no longer a demon, but he still needs to be saved. Sequel to Where do we begin (the rubble or our sins)? You should read that one first. (You'll notice I accidentally gave Cas his wings back in that fic. Please pretend that didn't happen.) Once again, the title is from Pompeii by Bastille.

I know everyone else is watching 10.10 right now, but it wanted to post this before it's completely Kripke'd.

A/N: Unbetaed and probably full of errors (logic and otherwise) but I needed to post it before 10.03 because reasons.

Now there's a sequel:
But if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing changed at all

Where do we begin (the rubble or our sins)?
Length: About 10,900 words
Rating: R for language (sorry, Dean has a potty mouth)
Characters: Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, Castiel, Crowley
Spoilers: Through season 9
Synopsis: This is Sam, saving his brother.

An AU that takes place immediately after 9.23. The title is from the song Pompeii by Bastille.

One of my goals for this season is to write a 100-word drabble for each episode. And because of a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] kalliel in the comments on this post, I realized I had to go back to 9.23 as well.

I had this crazy idea that for the four weeks until the Supernatural season 10 premiere, I would post a poll every day. And then I thought, that's stupid. I don't have four weeks of polls in me. By week two, my poll questions would be things like "which shoes look better with this outfit?" and "does this look infected?". So I'm calling it "four weeks of polls," but not "four weeks of DAILY polls." Just, you know. A lot of polls. :-D

And here's the first one!

[Poll #1981528]

I’m rewatching on Hulu right now (um, sorry, people who pay me to actually work – I’ll make it up to you, I promise). And according to Hulu, in this episode “Even though Dean continues to feel the effects of the First Blade, he strategizes a plan with Castiel and Sam to take down Metatron once and for all!” Um, no. Just no. Dean doesn’t do any strategizing. Dean just acts. Sam strategizes, Cas and Gadreel strategize, but Dean just goes.

Anyway, here we go!

First, I have some thoughts based on very vague spoilers (go ahead and click through if you want, the "spoilers" inside are spoiler-tagged and they're really not particularly spoilery, because I really do try hard to remain pure as the driven snow).

Vague thoughts... )

So, that's what I think. And this is why I try to avoid spoilers. Anyway, if you want to talk about any of this, please use the code letters. I want my comments to stay spoiler free. And if you do KNOW something, don't tell me! Don't even tell me you know I'm wrong. Or right. Though I'm probably not right. On second thought, we probably shouldn't talk about it at all. Nothing to see here. Just me freaking out. Carry on. (Aaaaaahhhhhh!)

And the second thing is, I spawned a plot bunny in my last post and I can't get past it until I write it. So here it is. I still kind of hope someone else writes it, only better.

Untitled, quickly written 9.22 fic )

Since [livejournal.com profile] counteragent hasn't done one of her awesome polls in a while, I'm going to steal her idea. Because I have questions that need answers!Take the poll... )

It seems like my last few reviews have started with "I don't know how I feel about this episode" (except, of course for the last one, because I know exactly how I feel about that) and you know what? This is no exception.

So. Things happened. Probably not in the same order in which I discuss them here, but I think you can keep up. You're pretty clever.

I'm unspoiled, including the promo, please help me stay that way. :-)

Well, that wasn't a waste of 42 minutes of my life. Because I only spent about 10 minutes watching it. As soon as the Supernatural title card showed up, I decided to fast-forward through every scene that didn't include Sam and/or Dean. So these are the notes I took last night:
Click for vaguely spoilery content )
Kids, back in my day, a "spinoff" meant one or more popular characters were actually spun off, like a little satellite, from their mother show. For example, for those of you old enough to remember, All in the Family begat The Jeffersons, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show gave us Rhoda and Lou Grant. Or if you're not that old, how about how The Simpsons spun off from The Tracey Ullman Show, or The Cleveland Show came from Family Guy. That's a spinoff. A beloved character with their own history and storyline gets a show of their own.

What we saw last night? That wasn't a spinoff. That was someone borrowing (and mangling) canon from one show and creating another, completely different show. And then shoehorning a couple of beloved characters from another show into it. A true Supernatural spinoff would have been if Garth and his new vampire family were given a show, or Jody and Alex.

Anyway. I knew I didn't care about the "spinoff," but what The Powers That Be did last night took me beyond "don't care" and straight into "I resent that this show even exists." Because they wasted an episode of Supernatural (at this point in the season!) on this crap.

Once again, this episode had things I liked and things I didn’t, and I can’t really say I loved the episode as a whole; nor did I hate it.
Stuff I liked, stuff I didn't, nostalgia )

So, there are only four episodes left, is that right? And one of them will be setting up the spinoff, so it probably won't have much (if anything) to do with the current arc?

As always, I’m unspoiled, please help me stay that way.

First, a very happy birthday to my friend [livejournal.com profile] brightly_lit! You are awesome and I hope you have a great day.

Second, [livejournal.com profile] alexisjane makes a really good point about how S9 has a great story arc but not necessarily a lot of great individual episodes. I’m feeling the same way. I like what’s going on, I just wish it was arranged differently, or something. Less filler.

So, yeah, I like that things are happening. Let’s get to the details…

All of a sudden I’ve got a lot of thoughts and theories (and yes, desperate hopes) about the rest of the season.
Rudy Hobbit always gets a pass… )
So. Yeah. If either of my scenarios happens, you won’t hear from me again because I will be dead from happiness. But it will be worth it.

I cannot hear anyone say the word “inquisition” without going full-on Monty Python. I do not apologize for this.

The more I think about the Crowley situation, the more undecided I am. Spoilers for 9.16... )

Holy crap.

Okay, so check this out...Spoiler for 9.16 after the cut )
caranfindel: (Default)
Things are definitely looking up. Lots to like in this episode.

Did it sound creepy? )

I’m mostly unspoiled for future episodes (though I do know of one guest star, dammit) so please help me stay that way!
