That when Mia admitted that she was a shapeshifter Dean didn't just kill her there and then, but went to check her alibi. Not that I think that's something Dean would do, but it's definitely something I think the current writers think Dean would do! So I was pleasantly surprised! And how long ago has it been since we had a good monster - years? I loved that!
I checked Jack stays good and rides off into the sunset for two reasons:
1) There's no way Jack will want to stay in the Bunker with Sam and Dean forever when there's a whole world to explore. Since we're getting a sped-up version of his childhood, he'll be ready to move out at the end of the year.
2) You can absolutely write characters out - even permanently - without killing them! In fact that's more realistic - people leave all the time IRL.
