Things I loved about this episode: everything about Sam's grief, He's our kid!, shadow!Duma, Anubis, older version of Lily played by Veronica Cartwright, sweet nougat boy.

Things I hated about this episode: everyone but Sam got to hug Jack, show making it all about Dean and then about Castiel, show implying that Michael isn't still inside Dean.

My guess is that Naomi lied about Michael's whereabouts because she's possibly working with him; maybe he's helping Heaven somehow and Naomi's information will lead the boys into a trap? That's the only thing that makes sense to me. As for why Sam never questioned the plan to bring Jack back, my headcanon is that he did struggle with it, privately, but his fatherly love for Jack and his too fresh grief won the argument.

Also, I'd say that the Empty is a better deal than Hell even if you're awake. As horrible as that might be, it still beats being tortured for years/decades/centuries and then becoming a demon. If you were awake in the Empty you could still dream. And being asleep in the Empty is vastly better than being in Hell.
