I have been consuming fanfic for 10 years the way Dean consumed alcohol in season 7. And of the hundreds of stories I've read, maybe a dozen are imprinted unforgettably in my brain.

This story has joined that small group. No matter how the series does end, this excruciating alternative will always be lurking as how it could have gone.
