On friending

Before the LJ redesign, my home page used to show updates from people who weren’t on my friends list, but I had visited their pages recently. I didn’t realize how much I needed this until it went away (is there a way to get to it that I'm missing?). There are so many LJers who I used to view regularly but never friended for some reason. Anyway, as I find them again, I’m friending them, and as I’ve seen some people have friend policies, I guess I’ll share mine. If I friend you, it’s because I want to follow what you’re doing. It doesn’t mean I expect you to friend me back or that I’ll be hurt if you don’t. It just means I don’t want to forget you’re out there and miss whatever excellent things you’re posting. If you’d prefer I didn’t friend you, that’s cool. Just let me know. No hurt feelings, I promise.

I'm so stunned to see someone saying something relaxed and well-adjusted on social media (that isn't fic) that I don't quite know what to say. :-)

Sigh. Sorry. I've had a few rough days on the "faith in humanity" (or at least in human intelligence) front. This makes sense to me; wish there were more like you. I even wish *I* could eschew the drama as much, sometimes.

I miss that thingy, too! Often it'd give me things from people whose posts I'd viewed on some SPN comm, and would lead me to more things I liked looking at. And it would remind me to stay off ONTD, because every time I clicked on one of those dumb links after I'd logged into LJ, it'd clog up that widget with ONTD crap instead of interesting SPN things. XD

This is the second post on LJ I've seen in the last 24 hours that was about being more pro-active about friending people and wanting to keep abreast of stuff on LJ. I know we are an ever-diminishing social networking platform, but that sentiment and activity makes me really happy. <3

Is there any way to opt out of the new format? I rejected it immediately and it hasn't changed, despite the constant prompts.

Not that I'm aware of. I've had the same experience, but even when I try to opt out, my home page is always in the new format.
