And--because I can't help but fact-check; it's a disease--this might clear up your handwave about the digger (6.04, from SuperWiki):
RUFUS: Yeah well, it’s definitely something. (Rufus stops pondering and snaps his head up) So, you got a shovel?
*Bobby uses a mechanical digger to dig a hole. Rufus stands by with a shovel, watching Bobby operate the machine.*
RUFUS: Man, I know what I want for Hanukkah.
Nothing to indicate either way whether the digger was a new concept for him, so I think in that respect this episode still fits with previously established canon.
I have to quibble with that. From what I remember, Rufus was pretty impressed that Bobby was using machinery to dig a hole, and it seemed like something that hadn't ever occurred to him. But that's just me and my imperfect memory.
...if this is obnoxious of me, feel free to tell me to butt out--I'm just a 'fixer' by nature, and like clarifying points that might hurt someone's enjoyment of an episode.
Not in the least! I love any kind of conversation in my comments, and clarification is always appreciated!
