I'm not sure how I feel about an actual deus ex machina end to this season. Except Sam and Dean can't win against Amara on their own without Chuck's intervention. The episode seem to imply that Chuck will be sacrificing himself to lock up Amara, which is the only deus ex machina I can accept because a Godless verse seem to fit Supernatural and its theme.
Except I want Sam involved in the equation. My worst fear is Lucifer in Cas saves the Day with God, I don't want that, I want Sam with God saving the day. I mean Sam is still technically made to hold an Archangel's grace. He is the man of faith, the guy who is a step away from completing the Trials. I want Sam to save the world with God's aid. Not God saving everybody while the boys get sidelined.
I agree. I'd be okay with Chuck saving the world if he involves Sam. If he NEEDS Sam. Partly because it would be a nice parallel to S5, where Sam blamed himself for releasing Lucifer and took on the responsibility of putting him back in the cage. (Having them redo Sam's S5 story arc with Cas in the role of Sam bothers me. Having Sam do it again does not. Because SAM.) Partly because it's time for Sam to be the Big Damn Hero again - it would be the perfect ending to this season where he's been the hero of his own story so many times. And partly because I JUST LOVE SAM WINCHESTER, OKAY?
