You were reading my mind!!! Your first scenario is EXACTLY what I have been advocating since Dean got the Mark and Sam got upset about Gadreel! It HAS to end with an equivalent action of Sam saving Dean!!!
It just has too!!!
And I am so afraid we're not going to get it...
