So, what's the deal with Lilith?

I'm working on a fic and I'm having problems reconciling some of Lilith's motivation. Here's what I know about her:

1. She's the new sheriff in town, apparently replacing Azazel.


2. She wants Sam gone. Presumably she wants him dead, since she tried to kill him after the hellhounds came for Dean.


3. She wanted Dean in Hell so he would break the first seal.


4. She's working with Ruby to trick Sam into breaking the last seal so Lucifer will rise.

But 2 doesn't make sense. If Lilith is Lucifer's minion, why would she want to destroy his vessel? What am I missing?

Maybe she didn't know Lucifer needed a vessel? One would think this would be fairly common knowledge within the "raise Lucifer" club, but I guess there could have been some failure to communicate on that part. XD I can't actually remember the nitty gritty o S4, but was Hell expressly privy to Lucifer's needs, prior to his rise at the end of 4x22/5x01? Or was it primarily guesswork? As far as Lilith's desire to kill Sam (assuming she doesn't know Lucifer needs his body), maybe she sees him as a potential threat--the boyking deal--and, even more, a remnant of the old regime under yellow eyes. And if Lilith is nothing else, it's certainly thorough; she wouldn't want to leave a loose end like that around.

This is all, of course, speculation and guesswork. Perplexing question, though! Good luck~
