I was in New Orleans for a meeting and discovered, too late, that there had been some sort of Walker Percy weekend with a session on Dunces. I'm a big WP fan, so I was really sorry to miss it, and it would have been interesting to attend the Dunces session, too. To make it up myself, I got another copy of the book and read it on the train all the way back to Seattle. This post jogged a fond memory loose.
Ha ha ha you must be mistaken, because if you read this book 30 years ago, that means I read it 30 years ago, and I'm not nearly old enough to have done that.
Oh. Wait. Yes I am.
(A train from New Orleans to Seattle? How long did that take?)
I forget exactly how long it took. I was traveling with friends and we stopped in Phoenix for a couple of days to visit folks. I did like the trip, but I think I’ll get a compartment next time; there were people going in and out of the carriage all night and it was super hard to sleep. There was some great scenery, though.
