I read this! For book club at the medical school where I work. We use donated cadavers, so it was relevant. :-) A very interesting read.
I keep seeing entries for this meme and thinking I ought to do it... you and I seem to have pretty different taste in books overall (if not opposite in some cases-- the Thomas Covenant series were among the rare books that I finished, but actively, deeply despised). But I want to TALK about the books, so if we're not allowed to comment (and not much interaction happens on LJ) I'm not sure there's a point. But maybe I will. :-)
I think it’s fine to talk about them in the comments - just that the post itself isn’t a review or anything. That’s how I’m interpreting it, anyway.
I’m impressed that you despised the Covenant series but finished it anyway (just the first three, or the second trilogy too?). It definitely had some flaws, but I loved the story and the non-Covenant characters. Also, I was like 16 when I first read it, so. ;-)
LOL, that's exactly how old I was when I read it, too! And I almost gave that as a reason why I finished them even though I hated them--that was my policy back then. Also I didn't have quite the same access to a vast array of (better) fantasy novels that I have now...
I think we're about the same age (I'm 48). I read the Chronicles of Amber, too, and didn't hate them, but they weren't favorites. I think I will do this meme, when I get around to it. :-) We'll probably have read more of the same stuff.
