Most rewatchable episodes poll - time for season 4!

Do you need a palate cleanser after... whatever that was we watched this week? Let's go back to better times. Let's go back to a time when we were angsting about what Sam and Dean were doing, not what Carver et al were doing. Let's go back to season 4!

What are the most rewatchable episodes of season 4? Pick as many as you like; we'll narrow them down later. Please make your selection by midnight (your time zone) on Sunday, May 4. And remember, if you want to passionately argue for your favorites, the comment section is yours! And invite your friends - the more votes, the more accurate our poll is. It's for science, people!

Unfortunately, LJ is having fits over the size of my poll options, so I couldn't put the episode descriptions in the actual poll this time. Sorry! Here they are for your slightly less convenient convenience.

Lazarus Rising - Dean crawls out of his own grave, Sam can exorcise demons with his mind, and oh, yeah, a BAMF ANGEL OF THE LORD shows up in one of the greatest entrances EVER.

Are You There, God? It’s Me, Dean Winchester - The good news is, Henriksen is back; the bad news is, he one of the Witnesses, and they are Rising.

In The Beginning - Mom is hot, Dean is going to Hell (again!), and a charming “Back To The Future” homage almost makes up for the fact that this time travel episode is shockingly devoid of Sam.

Metamorphosis - Sam identifies with a man who is transforming into a rugaru, Dean gets knocked out and almost eaten, and caranfindel watches the closet scene over and over again.

Monster Movie - A fun black and white episode with cheesy movie monsters and rehymenated Dean in lederhosen.

Yellow Fever - A tragicomic cracky episode with a very sad death at its core, terrified Dean, “Eye of the Tiger,” and that unbelievably hot little thing Halluci!Sam does where he dips his head as he’s walking toward Dean… sorry, got distracted there.

It’s The Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester - Sam defeats Samhain with his mind, an astronaut eggs the Impala, Dean is distressed by both of these acts, Uriel makes threats, and Castiel admits doubt.

Wishful Thinking - Another one of those crack episodes (suicidal teddy bear! the wrath of Todd!) that packs an emotional punch at the end - not when Sam briefly dies (is this #2?) but when Dean admits he does, in fact, remember Hell, and is not going to discuss it, because a little heart-to-heart is not going to change anything, Sam.

I Know What You Did Last Summer - One day little Tom and Shep Padalecki will accidentally come across this on TNT reruns and find out what their parents did last summer, and be horrified and grossed out, no matter how much anyone else may have enjoyed it, and we also meet Anna, but we all know this episode is really about Sam banging a demon, don’t we?

Heaven And Hell - Not one to be outdone by his little brother, Dean bangs an angel, and we learn that the only characters who are ever stripped before they’re tortured are female, and speaking of torture, Dean confesses that he stepped off the rack after 30 years in Hell.

Family Remains - A boring family ignores everything we’ve ever learned from horror movies, and more importantly, Dean admits he liked torturing people in Hell.

Criss Angel is a Douchebag - Sam and Dean see their lives reflected in a trio of magicians but surprisingly enough they come away with completely opposite life lessons; God, boys, it's like you're not even trying.

After School Special - Dean wears gym shorts, the boys confront their past, Dean wears gym shorts, Sam finds out a bully isn’t what he thought he was, and Dean wears gym shorts.

Sex and Violence - A siren sets the boys at each others’ throats, bad things are said and allegedly forgiven (but we've seen this show before and we know how that works), and Dr. Cara has sex with Sam and lives to tell the tale (as far as we know, but again, we've seen this show before and we know how that works).

Death Takes a Holiday - Someone is trying to kill Reapers, Tessa is back, and psychic Pamela knows what you did to that demon, Sam.

On The Head of a Pin - Dean tortures Alastair the good old-fashioned way, Sam kills him the new-fangled way, Uriel is exposed as a traitor, Cas gets hotter and hotter, Dean learns he broke the first seal, and we get our first sighting of charred angel wings.

It’s a Terrible Life - Apparently something "not natural" is happening, because Dean is a marketing manager, Sam is an IT support tech, and it takes caranfindel an embarrassingly long time to get the joke about “Smith” and “Wesson."

The Monster at the End of this Book - We meet the prophet Chuck and the Winchester Gospels, the boys are forced to flash their tattoos, Sam washes his gigantic darks, Dean comes dangerously close to eating tofu, and the fourth wall crumbles once again.

Jump the Shark - Sam and Dean have very different reactions to their suddenly-discovered half-brother until it turns out he’s a ghoul and he’s bleeding Sam dry, then they pretty much agree on what to do with him.

The Rapture - Jimmy Novak’s backstory is revealed, along with the second of many Amelias, but more importantly, Dean finds out where Sam’s freaky powers come from.

When the Levee Breaks - Sam is locked up in Bobby’s panic room as he detoxes from demon blood, Castiel releases him, and Dean brilliantly tries to reel him back in by using the one phrase that he already knows, from experience, will drive Sam away.

Lucifer Rising - Castiel joins Team Free Will and informs Dean that Lilith is the final seal, and Dean tries to stop Sam from killing her but he’s too late to do anything other than set up yet another scene that Tom and Shep will probably be discussing in therapy someday.

And here's the actual poll!

(ETA... Sorry, didn't mean to bold one answer. Can't fix it. It doesn't mean anything. Nothing to see here.)

"Jump the Shark" is one of the best episodes of SPN (and TV!) with a premise that was never supposed to have worked. So, so good. <3

I love that they fully embraced what they were doing. Hung a lampshade on it with the ep title and the reference to Cousin Oliver and said "yeah, we went there." And it works.

It will always be When the Levee Breaks for me. Such good heroic intentions mixed in with a screwed-up need for some sense of control - gone completely haywire and twisted into a hunger for power. MY SAMMY!! :(

And the end just breaks my heart. :-(

This is by far my favourite season, from Dean clawing his way out of the grave and Cas arriving, to Sam's demon blood addiction and Lucifer rising, via suicidal giant eddies and the impala scene with Dean & Anna, it was just amazing! I would watch any episode of S4 rather than the last episode of S9! I love these polls btw, thanks.

Thanks! I think they're a lot of fun and I really appreciate everyone playing along.

No kidding!

joke about “Smith” and “Wesson."

O-kay... what joke? o.O

[identity profile] caranfindel.livejournal.com 2014-05-02 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Just that their names were Smith & Wesson, which is an American gun manufacturer, just like Winchester. More of a play on words than a joke.

[identity profile] sanshal.livejournal.com 2014-05-02 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh okay; I was wondering if Smith & Wesson- the gun manufacturers, I mean; were brothers or something. that would really take the cake, wouldn't it?

[identity profile] caranfindel.livejournal.com 2014-05-02 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, no. However, Smith & Wesson was purchased by Oliver Winchester, manufacturer of the Winchester rifle, whose father's name was Samuel Winchester! \o/

season 4

*swoons* I actually voted for FAR to many ep's to rewatch. I'd just go for the whole season.....

[identity profile] caranfindel.livejournal.com 2014-05-03 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's a great season, isn't it?

[identity profile] vyperdd.livejournal.com 2014-05-03 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
I DID vote for the entire season. Just couldn't leave any eps out. It's my favourite season ever!!!! Choosing my absolute favourites is going to be very, very hard.

And I just cackled over your description for 4x09. I have a feeling that disc might go missing in the Padalecki household til Thomas and Shep are way past 18.

I'm as bad as Shep and Tom will be….((what are your parents doing? Cover your eyes.))

On the Head of a Pin was so well done but I can't go back and watch it. Holy hell, Jensen. The same with When the Levee Breaks and Lucifer Rising. Such a well done season with a great arc that made sense and went somewhere. The whole season is plotted just about perfectly.

For some reason I can watch Sam and Ruby but not Dean and Anna.

Best season.

I love... well, pretty much all of it, really, but it's got to be "On the Head of a Pin" for me, harrowing as it is. (Yes, my id is probably showing there.)
