9.02 Rewatch (no thanks to AT&T!)

Thanks to the bozos at AT&T who gave us an obsolete/faulty Uverse box, I was unable to record 9.02 (sob) so I've been forced to rewatch on Hulu. Which means sitting through commercials, argh. Anyway, I noticed something this time around that I didn't notice before.

Someone (I thought it was [livejournal.com profile] ash48 but now I can't find any of it in her LJ) did a lot of really interesting meta posts regarding color in SPN. Basically, Team Free Will wears red and blue, and green is a sign of danger that's often worn by victims. And oh, look what Sammy's wearing at the end of this episode. When he's talking about finally being happy. Yes, Sam, that green really brings out your eyes. But it also screams "victim."

Also, there's been some discussion about what Dean really meant when he said "it's a horror show up there" when Abaddon threatens to blow smoke up his ass. I know a lot of fans think he's talking about his state of mind, after rewatching (and rewatching and rewatching) I honestly think he's just talking about his ass. Because that's a very Dean thing to do - act as if he's taking her literally and make a joke about it.

I thought that line was interesting, too, in the way that it conflates ass innuendos with headspace ones. Because the line right before it definitely Abaddon talking about blowing smoke up his ass, but then after his line she continues from that with talk about being up top and in his head. I FIND THINKING ABOUT WHO THE HELL IS TALKING ABOUT WHAT in that exchange endlessly fascinating!

Hmmm, what would the color meta say about Dean's green coat in 9x01? Is he a victim of himself?

Yeah, I think she ignores his silly tangent and sticks with her own train of thought.

I think it's interesting, though, because she does--and doesn't. Because he's the one who makes the transition from down to up--she just strips that transition of all potential bravados and goes straight for the kill. XD

Basically she is Done With Your Shit, Dean.

It might have been me or hugemind that was talking color. I noticed Sam's shirt at the end too. He wore a lot of green through the ep. The green that used to be sort of a warning was the really weird green from the Zachariah/Mary scene at the end of Dark Side of the Moon. It doesn't seem to be a good thing with red and yellow either. Green in 9.01 was worn by a lot of the angels. I'm curious to see where they go with it. Sometimes they seem to stick with something for the season and sometimes it's just for an episode.

Yes, it was you! Love those color discussions! So maybe this is just an angel green, not a danger green,,,? (Also, Sam looked really good in that shirt! :-D)

Hi,

That would have been [livejournal.com profile] galwithglasses. She does awesome recaps examining the colour choices in the show.

And that discussion about what Dean said ended up being very interesting - lots of different interpretations. I think your right - it's a very Dean thing to say - definitely his was of deflecting a threat. I think it was also deliberately creepy of Abaddon to say that. The whole scene had that element, which was then reflected in the next scene when Sam was actually taken over by someone.

I didn't even think about the juxtaposition between their discussion and actual posessed Samzekiel.

It'd be hilarious if something happened to his tattoo, but no demon could successfully possess him for more than a few seconds due to his personal baggage.

LOL! "Dean, I know everything you're thinking, and I can't take it in here "
