De-lurking to comment on your parallels between Claire and Sam. I think Claire is like Sam because she lost her parents to the Supernatural and fell into Hunting as a result. She feels like she is the odd one out in her family. She's single-minded. She was screwed over by the Angels. And she is a former Vessel
File under Things I Didn't Like: Sorry, you'll have to pry my 'Dean can cook' headcanon from my cold, dead hands. Loved it otherwise, though.
(Though, I did wonder if Claire had tried calling Cas first, and whether she got an answer. And now I kind of want crackfic about Lucifer giving terrible life advice to teenagers...)
I think the saving grace of this episode (besides the pretty, which is the saving grace of EVERY episode) was that the girls didn't track one-on-one with the boys. Claire is Dean because after being involved with the Supernatural she sees it's pointless to try and have anything else, and Sam fought that realization body and soul until the collateral damage was too high-- but Alex isn't there yet. Claire is Sam because she understands being separated from the values around her-- but he wanted "safe" and she wants to hunt. Alex is Dean because she is willing to sacrifice, because she wants to live the life that people who love her want her to live.
*tangent: it's curious that Sam doesn't emphasize that more with others or with himself. That's what he said in the pilot: "not normal. Safe."
And Claire, you are more interesting every time we see you, but for the love of something holy, stop with the eyeliner and the bottle blond and the bad hair!!!
First off, your polls are always such fun! Kay, so I think the girls mirror Sam and Dean without either one of them being more like either boy- if that makes sense? I think both girls could relate to both boys. Also, having grown up not far from Memphis, and having done the Graceland tour, I will say that Elvis's favorite sandwich was Peanut Butter and Banana - fried together- in a gooey mess- that I did not try at the local restaurants. LOL Having said that, Elvis would hav probably tried the Elvis. :) I will also add, if they were to do a spin off, a girl driven one full of characters we love from show would work so much better than what they tried! :)
I really enjoyed this ep! Claire usually grates on me a little, but actually without Cas there, I enjoyed seeing her interactions with Alex and Jody, as well as Sam and Dean. If Show was trying to mirror the girls in the boys, I didn't see an obvious and clear answer to that, and I sort of hope they weren't trying to, and were just building up the characters more, maybe with echoes of things we recognise in other characters because they've been touched by the supernatural.
I would be interested in seeing a Wayward Daughters spin off, but yeah, I'd love to see Donna, and Eileen and maybe also Krissy Chambers there too.

When will this show just stop with the horrible teenage girls? Alex, Claire, Krissy. If I wanted teen angst, I would re-watch Dawson's Creek.

Agree with gingersnap about horrible teenage girls. I like Jody much more, but maybe that says stuff about my age
