A happy ending
Aug. 3rd, 2018 02:09 pmLast week I ordered my Sam and Baby Funko Pop. Delivery was scheduled for Thursday, August 2. I've checked the Hot Topic site a few times since then and he's sometimes listed as out of stock. Which makes me happy, because I want my boy to be popular.

In which a wish is granted
Jul. 27th, 2018 12:44 pmAt this time last year, I was excited about my new Dean and Baby Funko Pop but mourning the lack of a Sam to accompany him. Imagine my surprise when the Hot Topical emailed me yesterday inviting me to buy Sam and Baby! How did I not know this was a thing? He's been available in the UK for over a week! How did I not know? Why is it not even on the Funko website?

Look at his cute little worried face! Marvel at the texture of his hair! Behold the awful orange jacket!

In praise of season 8
Jun. 29th, 2018 01:39 pmWednesday I took the day off work to Get Shit Done, which invariably means a little time spent Getting Shit Done and a little time spent Watching Supernatural Reruns on TNT. As one does. (I'm home. It's on. What am I supposed to do, ignore it?)
They were on season 8. As far as I'm concerned, s8 is a good example of both the best and the worst of SPN. The first half of the season is a train wreck, starting with the brothers' tepid reunion. I don't know if I've discussed this here, but the first time I watched 8.01, I assumed Sam left in the middle of the night because he got a phone call from Dean. I'm still not convinced their meeting in the cabin is supposed to be the first time he realizes his brother is alive. And then there's Amelia, who I just don't like (sorry
kalliel). Partly because she's a shrew, and partly because she's a symbol of the brothers' fractured relationship. (No, I don't feel the same way about Benny, because Benny sacrificed himself to save Sam. All is forgiven, you adorable blood-sucking Cajun.) And brother vs. brother is just not what I'm here for. (Unless, of course, you're talking about brothers under the influence, like Demon!Dean chasing Sam through the bunker with a hammer, because I am ABSOLUTELY HERE FOR THAT, FUCK YEAH.)

Although, to give her full credit, if it weren't for Amelia we wouldn't have this. So I guess she is forgiven too.
But as soon as we ditch Amelia and Benny, things get significantly better, because we go right into "LARP and the Real Girl," and hello!
Some of my favorite things about this episode...

Now, I have to confess, one thing might have improved this episode. But that's okay, I ficced it for you...

So, we get a new episode on Thanksgiving. Odd choice. Will it be something we're thankful for, or will it be a giant turkey? On the one hand, it's a Buckleming episode, and they tend to write a bad episode. On the other hand, it's directed by Richard Speight, and he tends to direct a good episode. So, in the yin and yang of Supernatural, whose influence will be more powerful? Let's find out!

Carry on, wayward daughters
Jun. 22nd, 2017 10:03 amJust when you were starting to doubt that this is a great time to be alive, it looks like we might be getting that Wayward Daughters spinoff after all. (Although a different site said it would be called Wayward Sisters? Pfft. You're missing the point, guys.)

They are literally so adorable I cannot stand it.
And this made me think. J2 have talked about sticking with Supernatural for "at least 300 episodes," which sounds like the 300th ep could be some kind of endpoint in their minds. And if I remember right, they'll hit this milestone in season 14? Does that sound right? (Yeah, I know, I could do the math myself, but I'm not going to.)
Anyway. Not that I want the guys to leave, but they have kids and lives and they're not going to want to split their time between Austin and Vancouver forever. But what if this is a way for them to ease out of a full-time show without leaving us altogether? What if Sam and Dean semi-retire from hunting and become advisors, Bobby Singer-style, to the Wayward Daughters? What if they just show up on a few episodes a year?
Or, even better, what if they show up on every episode, just in one brief scene? What if every episode includes a call to or from the Winchesters? The Js could film it in Austin, so they'd never have to go back to Canada. They'd only need a tiny crew. Jensen could direct. Jared could do his own hair. It'd be perfect.

I have an entire tag on Tumblr called 'please let jared style sam's hair." It is a good tag.
In fact, what if some episodes start with the boys calling the girls about a case, like Charlie's Angels? And Dean would be all, "Angels, we heard about a bunch of exsanguinations in Des Moines" and Sam would roll his eyes but would also be not-quite-so-secretly amused and Dean would get a kick out of himself. I like it.
Hello angels; this is Dean.
And furthermore, what if this phone call always shows the guys in a close-up, and when they end the call, the camera pulls back and you see that they're up to something crazy or interesting or just plain sexy in their retirement? Like shirtless deep-sea fishing or yoga (in tank tops) or rock climbing (in shorts) or getting hot stone massages (wearing nothing but tiny towels) or walking the red carpet (in tuxedos) or oh! Imagine them saying "good luck, ladies" and they hang up and the camera pulls back, way back, and it's sunset and they're on the rim of the Grand Canyon?!
Yeah, I need this.
(here's another interesting story about the spinoff.)
