Why was Gunner even killed if they killed his contract holder? Something I've missed?

I wondered that too - unless the demon didn't hold his contract, and there's still a(nother) King of the Crossroads who hold all the contracts? Mind you, Lilith held Dean's contract for some reason that was never explained, because she wasn't anything to do with the Crossroads demons - was she?

Lilith could have been working tobring forth the apocalypse, not just to collect souls for the souls -
