I thought the soul stealing was being done without contracts - and that was why Gunnar had to carve up the bodies with those symbols. Otherwise why bother with that?

I assume the contracts make everything more fun - you not only steal a soul you corrupt it at the same time. I dunno!

Well, until recently Crowley kept a firm lockdown on that. Didn't the demon say he was stockpiling souls now because everything had gone to hell?
