Thoughts from the panic room

I'm working on a fic with a scene that takes place in and around Bobby's panic room, and I suddenly realized - that place locks from the outside. Why would you want a panic room that locks from the outside? Shouldn't the lock be on the inside? Otherwise, whatever you're hiding from can just lock you in and leave, right?

Also, I had a medical test done recently that required me to lie on a cot with my arms hanging straight out over the sides, like this. (No, there was no devil's trap on the floor - not that I noticed, anyway.)

And you know what? That really hurts. After just a minute or so, my arms, especially my elbows, were extremely sore. Filming this scene must have been excruciating.

Lol, that's true! I never noticed! :D

o_O Wow. I honestly never thought of that. Maybe there's a locking mechanism on the inside that when triggered, disables the outside lock -- nah, then they wouldn't be able to lock Sam IN. Oooh, sticky.

I know, right? The only thing I can think of is that it didn't have an outside lock until Dean saw Sam drinking demon blood, and he called Bobby and said "we gotta lock Sam up in the panic room" so Bobby installed it before they got there?

Good point, sometimes they don't think these things through! And poor Jared, I hadn't thought about how uncomfortable that position would be. Hope your arms have recovered!

All better, thanks. :-)

LOL that's an excellent question. XD I like the explanation offered above. What's funny about the panic room is, it was in the basement, yeah? So even if the house burned down, I imagine this steel-plated underground room is still around. Since Bobby's dead and I assume his property is now property of the state, what...did they do with it, exactly? Did Jody step in and do some damage control? Because I imagine if they found that, and all the other crap in Bobby's house, they might feel inclined to snoop around the rest of the grounds for a while, and find all those bodies buried there, uh. We know there's at least one kitsune out there--I can't imagine what else!

Yeah, that one's crying out for a fic. What they found at Bobby's after the fire. Yikes.

I can't really remember, but didn't Bobby lock it from the inside in the Witnesses episode? I thought he did? Maybe he changed it when Dean called to keep Sam inside?

I'm hoping that because his arms were tensed, it didn't hurt his elbows so much. I'm assuming it hurt when you relaxed because all the pressure focused on your elbows? Ouch...your poor elbows. :-(

Yeah, my theory now is that Dean called him when he was on his way and told him they'd need a lock on the outside.

And yes, my arms had to be relaxed, so that's probably why it hurt. Good call. :-)

I love that scene - Jared totally knocks it out of the park... :-)
