10.13 Poll

A couple of things before we begin the poll...

First, let me say happy birthday to a couple of lovely and talented friends - [livejournal.com profile] balder12 and [livejournal.com profile] frozen_delight! I hope you both have fabulous birthdays.

And second, I must pimp the Evil Sam Roulette over on [livejournal.com profile] evilsam_spn. If you're not already a member or watcher, you need to check this out, because some GOOD THINGS are going to be posted over the next few days. And by "good" I mean "scary naughty evil badness." Don't miss it.

Now... on to the poll!

[Poll #1999024]

As always, no spoilers in the comments, please and thank you.

I think the fact that I was the first one to answer confirms that I pretty much live for your episode polls.

I went with CasCosplayFail on the overcoat issue, but actually they didn't really affect me one way or the other. I'll have to look closer when I rewatch to try and see what the fuss is all about.

Manboob guy ftw!

Dean exhibited the same "go for the gusto" behavior in early S3, when he knew he was going to be dead in a year. Just a couple weeks ago, Dean was all over the "healthy living will help keep the Mark under control" idea, but now, not so much. He's either trying to keep the Mark-beast "fed" by submitting to base urges, or he's said "screw it, I'm gonna have all the fun I can, while I still can."

Either way, down deep, Dean doesn't really think he can beat the Mark.

I agree. He's going hog-wild because, why not?

Has anyone noticed that when he consumes huge amounts of food, it's not a good sign where the Mark is concerned?

Ah, just like S3. Very good point.

Back when DOS was The Computer Language to know, "Halt and Catch Fire" was a kill switch command. Once the program ran, when it hit that it was the signal to stop operating and delete the program.

Thank you! Now there's a tv show with that title.

Thank you!

The title refers to a television show about young people doing computer development up against IBM ad Apple. Someone else explained the meaning of the title.

I loved manboob guy! He was so...normal.

Dean thinks he can live with the Mark, but really, he's kidding himself. I enjoyed pigging out!Dean. It was silly but funny. Dean leering at college girls...ew. As he said about going to Plucky Pennywhistle's by himself, "a guy in his 30s going there alone...that's not pervy." A strip club I'm okay with. I liked that he apologized to Sam about "making you leave". Nice little throwback reference.

ETA: Crossookie! I want one!

ETA ETA: Your polls are always so much fun, keep doing them!

Pigging out Dean was okay, but overdone (and I swear he was laughing at one point.) Leering Dean, that's different.

I actually watched this one, and I was very, very happy to see Sam getting to show his brains and go run around and be Sam. That made me so incredibly happy... flower petals in the air happy.

The food thing - I mean, it was gross, but it's something he's always done, and he's done it to get a rise out of Sam since "Nightmare" in s1 so it didn't bug me? And it got a rise out of Sam, so it worked, and it was gross but ok. The leering at the college girls - I was less ok with that, by a lot.

I also had some concerns that they seemed to be taking away from some of Dean's knowledge, if that makes any sense? I know that Dean knows that smashing a monitor isn't going to do anything to the wifi. Like, I know I'm the last person to defend Dean since 9.01 but really...

My theory on Dean's behavior in the episode is that it was supposed to be a contrast to his crunchy health nut kick from a couple of episodes earlier. We saw him fall off the wagon with alcohol last week, and this is further evidence that his id is taking over, and/or that he's trying to sublimate his growing appetite for violence into the pursuit of food and sex. Although I'm genuinely not sure right now how much that's a fanwank vs. actual canonical intent.

Thank you for the birthday wishes!
