Most rewatchable episode of Supernatural S4 - time to narrow it down!

All right folks. Season 4. The final four. Time to narrow it down. Sorry, this one is pic-heavy, for reasons that will become obvious.



Lazarus Rising -  In my opinion, this isn't just one of the best episodes of S4. It's one of the best episodes of the series. It's bookended by two remarkable acts - Dean clawing his way out of his own grave and everything that happens in the gas station, and Castiel's entrance. I know a lot of people aren't big fans of our little nerdy angel, but you've got to admit, that entrance is just fucking beautiful. And then, in between - Dean's heartrending and hilarious reunion with Bobby, his even more heartrending reunion with Sam, the revelations about Sam, what happens with Pamela, there's just so much amazing (and visually stunning) storytelling happening here. It's an exposition dump when you really examine it, but it doesn't feel like it. It just feels like 42 minutes of beautifully crafted television.

It's a Terrible Life - To me, one of the most remarkable things about this episode is that it shows Sam is the one who's a natural hunter. Sam is the one who senses something is not right. Sam is the one who dreams of hunting with his brother. Sam is the one who wants to go after the ghost. Sam is the one who recognizes his name is wrong, and there's something weird about his personal situation that he can't quite put his finger on. Dean assimilates into his new life, as he always does, whether it's a movie set or prison. But Sam knows it isn't right (even though Dean's fake life is so much more different than Sam's is). Also, we get one of Sam's post-exertion huffs, and those just do things to me.

The Monster at the End of this Book – I love and hate this episode. Love, because damn, it’s lovable. Chuck, the cruel, capricious God, fills me with glee. Sam and Dean are adorable, what with the minivan and the tofu burger and Sam’s giant darks and pensive shoulders and THE TATTOOS. And Castiel, when he slyly lets Dean know how to summon an archangel? Is so badass and adorable I can barely stand it. But I hate the existence of the Supernatural books. They rip me out of the story. (Also, the fact that Chuck doesn’t recognize Sam and Dean bothers me enough that I felt compelled to write a fix-it fic!)

When the Levee Breaks – This is easily one of the most painful episodes of the series. And let’s face it; that bar is set pretty high. Dean’s anger and feelings of betrayal, Sam’s heartbreaking hallucinations, Castiel’s duplicity. And then it gets worse. Sam holds Bobby’s gun to his chest and asks him to shoot! Dean calls Sam a monster! Dean uses the same phrase John used on Sam! God, people, what are you trying to do to me? (And also, Sam going after Ruby’s bleeding arm is just very, very hot.)

So, which episode is the most watchable?

OMG!! I DON'T KNOW...I DON'T KNOW!! D-: Lazarus Rising with all the hugging - such AMAZING hugging - and the water chugging and finding out about what Sammy's really been up to...and Castiel's awesome entrance.

But WTLB - that awesome fight scene - DEAN'S FACE...the panic room...again, Dean's face...

I just don't know!!

I think it's gonna have to be Lazarus Rising - too many amazing scenes and lines...close call though...

I'm sort of meh about Cas in general but his entrance is one of the best of any character anywhere second only to Death in season 5. His face in the cap above telling Dean about the angel and saying good luck is my favorite Cas cap of the whole series. And Sam and Ruby and the knife and the blood….who knew that would be so hot? SPN - teaching me about my kinks since 2006 or whenever it was. It's a Terrible Life has such a gorgeous Dean (his eyes, guh) and Sam making polo shirts look better than anyone has a right to. It's hard to pick a favorite so I just went with the one I've watched the most.

Lazarus Rising would be my number one, but I do love It's a Terrible Life for exactly the reasons you cite. Sam is the natural hunter, and I think it's largely overlooked or ignored in favor of fan's characterizing Sam as wanting normal etc. without looking at the underlying reasons.

So I went with Lazarus Rising, because the first 8 minutes and Castiel's entrance kick such an unimaginable amount of ass.

This was a very easy choice for me. WTLB is my 2nd favourite ep after Mystery Spot and it's probably the ep I've watched the most. Sick puppy that I am, I simply can't get enough of Sam hallucinating everyone from Alastair to young Sam to Mary, Sam going through the torture of detox believing that Dean has finally given up on him, so much that he doesn't care if Bobby shoots him, in fact he WANTS bobby to kill him, just to end it all.

And oh, yeah, the entire Sam/Ruby scene is sizzling hot and then there's the build up to the fight and the fight itself and the aftermath and it's all so heartbreaking.

And I still wonder if it will ever be revealed that it was Cas who let Sam out of the panic room. I would love it but , like the swapped voice-mail and the Samulet returning I ain't holding my breath.

Whaaa my ep is losing?? I picked MatEotB because, start to finish, the script, acting, direction, everything, are flawless. Plus, Chuck! Winchester Gospels! "What's a slash fan?" Pink flowery band-aids! Tough choice between that and IaTL, though .... I love these polls. :-)
