I have just watched 12.06, "Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox" on TNT, and I have some thoughts…

In the montage of Asa making out with various babes in his car, one of those women must have been Tasha Banes.

When Dean bitches at his mom because she's driving around looking up things in John's journal instead of asking her kids about it, I want her to thump him upside the head and say "You were four years old last month! I am not ready to treat you like an adult! Will you just give me a little time to deal with this?"

Jody met Asa "a few months ago" and she's already (1) met his mother and (b) started fantasizing about a life with him? Girl moves fast.

It's interesting that Jody's immediate reaction, when learning Mary is alive, is isn't this awesome? instead of um, my son came back to life too and that turned out not so good, so be careful, guys.

I love these guys with Jody. I really do. She should have been their mom.

I don't know if anybody's in the mood to think about Walker today, but I need to talk about something other than {ahem} prequelgate, so let's just share some brief thoughts, not a whole recap.

I didn't expect to recap 1.14 and yet here I am, still avoiding my unfinished Summergen fic. I'm actually writing this in real time, as I watch the episode. So for once I'm not pretending I don't know what happens. I literally don't know.

WELL. Turns out I have a lot to say about this episode. Maybe because it's the first one I actually watched on a TV and not on my phone? Maybe because the whole thing was one big Supernatural fanfic? But I had a lot of thoughts and feelings about this one and decided I need to do an actual recap. (Don't count on it ever happening again.)

I did not (and still do not) intend to discuss every individual episode of Walker, but we've got some time to kill before 1.13 (time I should be using to work on Summergen, shush) and I have things to talk about.

Once again I apologize for posting this so very late. Real life has been disappointingly inconvenient lately. And then LJ wouldn’t let me post. For hours. But now, here we are!

THEN: Well, okay, the music is Bob Seger. And I like Bob Seger. But not this song. And they've used it before; I believe in the episode after Gadreel!Sam kills Kevin. So I'm starting off disappointed. Me and Sam, we've killed just about everything there is. Dean not killing Jack, but still looking awfully hot aiming the God Gun at him. Michael!Dean. Sam's beard! \o/ Oh, wait, SAM was the one who pushed Michael into the walk-in in Dean's brain? How did I not catch that? I am a Winchester! Sam's violent hug. John. And then some forgettable stuff and then SAM SHOOTING CHUCK. Welcome to the end.

Now. Bob Seger's still singing, and it doesn't seem like an appropriate song for this fight scene. Because we've obviously picked up right where we left off, with TFW fighting off the risen dead in the cemetery. Cas calls out to the brothers and then picks up Jack's corpse and I think he's making a run for it and leaving them to deal with the horde of undead, but they follow. Sam leads the way into a mausoleum. (The same one where Maggie and her pink pants ended up last season? Looks familiar.)

New title card!

I've been thinking about this scene (because no, I'm not over this episode yet, in case you were wondering), and it turns out I got the dialog wrong...

The more I think about the Crowley situation, the more undecided I am. Spoilers for 9.16... )

I'm still not a fan, but I found things to like, and I also think I can put my finger on the thing that bothered me the most.

This was supposed to be a comment in the discussion on [livejournal.com profile] spn_bunker but I decided it needed pictures! Lots of pictures! Because the defining characteristic of this episode, for me, is that it's so damn pretty.

And there are so many wonderful moments. The introduction of "Christo," which we remember and love even if the writers don't. Sam's voice, which is pretty soft through the episode, turning loud and powerful when he's Latinating. Little pieces of characterization and story arc, like the way Dean looks at Sam when Jerry says John was proud of him, the fact that Sam still isn't sleeping, the way Dean sleeps withna weapon under his pillow, Dean's pride in his homemade EMF reader, the reveal of John's voicemail message. It's just one of those great classic episodes that's a little bit MOTW, a little bit grand story arc, and a whole lot of pretty.

Jarpad tweeted last night that he was going to be watching with "someone whose name rhymes with gents-in-shackles." And a thousand fanfics were born. ;-)

Once again, I was completely unspoiled, and oh my freaking god, people, I don't know why any of you would want to be spoiled, because it's so much better to get hit with it as part of the story.

I don't think I can even divide my feelings into like/dislike, so here they are.
Spoilers... )
Things that are not spoilers:

  • On the hair watch, neither of the boys looked that good. Sam's was flat and Dean's was too short

  • That smug bitch who bought a Windows phone because she "sees things other people don't?" She needs to get the hell off of my TV.

  • I guess I can go watch all the previews now and see how spoilery they actually were!
