Guys, I started writing this post in the spring. The date on this file is March 11. And now I'm annoyed as hell that I didn't go ahead and post it. Because, you know I've said sometimes I put something out into the world and it comes true? Well, here we go again. So just pretend you're reading this in March, back when I came up with the idea.

I was disappointed when I saw the news about Jared Padalecki's new show, because I wanted to believe the guys were leaving Supernatural so they could spend more time with their families. But when I saw it was likely going to be filmed in Austin, I was like, okay, I get it. Work all day, still get to go home to the wife and babies. It's a good thing. (Has anyone official actually said they're filming in Austin? Or is that just fanon?) And I also understand the guys saying they wanted to quit while they were ahead, and let the show go out on a high note. (Some would say they missed that opportunity years ago. Ahem.)

Now, am I going to watch Walker? It's unlikely. I love Sam Winchester, not Jared Padalecki. Jared is a handsome, talented, funny man, but the bottom line is that he's Sam Winchester's meatsuit, and I have a difficult time watching him play anyone else. (Yes, I've seen Friday the 13th. He's obviously playing Sam Winchester, using one of his many aliases.)

(Although, I'll admit, there are some fairly compelling reasons to watch...)

Yesterday I pulled into a parking space and noticed the van next to me had a moose airbrushed on the side. (Sadly, no squirrel.) And as I sat there and laughed, a black Impala pulled up on the other side. (A new one. But still.)

And then, today, I was reading responses to the tweet about Mr. Peanut being dead, because some of them were funny. And there was this:

It was a tweet about MR. FREAKING PEANUT. WHY IS DEAN WINCHESTER IN THERE.

Tuesday was National Squirrel Appreciation Day. Maybe that's why it's in the air.

(Oh god, you guys, tonight is 15.10. We're HALFWAY DONE.)

I’m glad to see Joann Fabrics has come up with an appropriate way to celebrate the 300th episode of Supernatural this week:

If you're like me, you saw Wal-Mart's recent "famous cars" commercial, where cars from TV and movies use the Wal-Mart grocery pick-up service, and said "that's cute, but A VERY IMPORTANT CAR IS MISSING."

So, if you're like me, you saw an article on Yahoo this morning about that ad and said WAIT.

I can’t believe she didn’t make it into the final ad!

I was in a meeting this morning with a woman who had PLAID EYEGLASSES. And Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs) is tweeting about Jim Rockford’s car being for sale (which not only makes me daydream about getting my hands on an Impala, but let us not forget the Winchester emergency separation plan - first hotel in the book, register under Jim Rockford).

How am I supposed to think about anything that’s NOT Supernatural under these circumstances?

As we enter week one of A Month Without New Episodes, let's talk about something completely unrelated to Supernatural. I've been re-listening to one of my favorite podcasts, The Monster Hunters. Yes, I know you're saying "that actually sounds like it might be completely related to Supernatural," but it's not. They have nothing in common.

It's a charming, nutty British comedy podcast about two men who, yes, do hunt monsters, but they do it in England in the 1970s. And they're not brothers. One is a quiet, kind, scholarly professor. In the second episode, he finds himself attracted to a woman for the first time since a year ago, when his wife was killed by a monster. Sadly, the new woman is bitten by a werewolf and insists on killing herself with his silver-bullet-laden gun. The other is a fighter, a drinker (especially Scotch), and a ladies man. He drives a Jensen, which is an old British sportscar I've never heard of, and has an ex-wife whose maiden name is Winchester.

Oh, wait a minute...

Pinterest, that tireless curator of Things I Might Be Obsessed With Interested In, sent me the usual "Here's a list of stuff you might want to look at" email. And something looked very familiar.

The email:

Closeup of the important bit:

Because I posted this. Last year, I posted it to Tumblr, and apparently someone put it on a site called ifunny and then someone put that on Pinterest and then it was proudly presented to me as something I might like. Yes, Pinterest, I am very interested in my own Tumblr post. 10/10 would recommend. Good job, buddy.

(Also? It's still true. I'm not over this look from 12.22 and I never will be.)

It's July, so naturally my local craft and hobby store is full of Christmas decorations. I was walking through the other day and spotted these ornaments:

and thought, that looks like something for a Winchester-themed Christmas tree! So I continued shopping and found a few more things...

I listened to Pandora for maybe 30 minutes this morning, and heard these things:

"Spirit in the Sky," which was used in 5.02, "Good God Y'all."

"Dust in the Wind," which Dean quoted in "Appointment in Samara."

"Wish You Were Here," which hasn't been used on the show but will always be a Sam & Dean song to me.

A commercial for Jared Jewelers. ;)

I am not watching SPN tonight. I am at a restaurant with The Kid. Our waiter's name is Sam.

In my never-ending battle to avoid spoilers, I don't read the descriptions U-verse (my television provider) gives each episode. Turns out that's not really a problem sometimes. These are actual U-verse descriptions:

Mom had a very complicated way of committing suicide. I wonder how she got herself on the ceiling?

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] themegalosaurus alerted me to this little bit of fluff on Tumblr...

Did I say fluff? I mean life-changing moment. In case you missed it:

That's right, friends. I have been on E! News. The lovely [livejournal.com profile] crowroad3 and I were the focus of a groundbreaking story about the esteemed literary genre of Supernatural fanfiction. (You'll notice we both declined interview requests... we're very private people.)

What happens next, you ask? Well, obviously, the Supernatural cast, writers, and show runners are going to watch this important news item and will be intrigued enough to scour the internet until they find that very fic.(And no, that wasn't a random screenshot grabbed by an intern who was told to get a visual of fanfic. Obviously a producer picked out that shot and that fic for very particular reasons.) When they read it, they'll feel compelled to read everything I've written - fic, reviews, meta, and other nonsense - and they'll say hey, this caranfindel person has some amazing insight, she knows what we're doing wrong and what we should be doing instead; we need her on our team. I'll then become a writer (head writer, perhaps, but probably not in my first year) and when that happens, you know what's coming next. That's right, guys. A season on a boat. It's coming. I can feel it. Everything is falling into place. (For me, anyway. Crowroad is a poet, and therefore will probably feel compelled to withdraw from society and move to her own personal Walden Pond. Such is the life of the tortured artist.)

(Seriously, how funny is this? First, I don't even know what LJ community that screenshot is from - I don't recognize it at all. And it shows on the screen when they're talking about FF.net and don't even mention LJ. Second, the theory that fans wrote Wincest because there were no other relationships in the first two seasons of the show? Ha ha ha ha ha no. And what did they call us? Supernatties or something like that? Please don't.)

You know, I really try not to obsess about this damn show but life keeps getting in the way.

And then shit like this happens )

I'm mostly ignoring the TV while the husband watches South Park. But "Carry On Wayward Son" just came on. On South Park. WTF.

(Oh, okay, it's the one where Stan plays Guitar Hero.)

If you've only watched Supernatural season 1 via Netflix streaming, you might not realize what you're missing. Much of the original music wasn't licensed for this release, and was replaced by generic crap. Two glaring examples are in the last episode. At the end of the episode, when the Winchesters are in the Impala, "Bad Moon Rising" is replaced by something pretty awful (but luckily very forgettable). And an even worse crime is the lack of "Carry On Wayward Son." Yes, that's right, The Road So Far doesn't feature its iconic soundtrack. This is wrong. Very wrong. But the good news is, the DVD version seems to have all the awesome original music.
