I, too, have gone through the same thought process as in the tumblr post: weird that Dean doesn't smoke, what with that whole 'bad boy' persona he's got going on. Maybe it's a fitness thing? Shrug.
But like Dean (doesn't) point out here to John, drinking a lot of alcohol ain't that good for your fitness either. Nor are all the cheese burgers he eats. So it's an interesting character point to ruminate on. Why does he draw the line at smoking? This is a credible explanation. And a nice character piece too.
