I was hoping that the Claire story would be peripheral to the Winchester one, but nope, it was entirely the other way around. :( And yup, Dean's descent could've been more gradual if the brothers' screen time hadn't been so curtailed. Instead we got Sam and Dean as extras on their own show. D:
