I'm belated with this but, here I am with my bitter Sam girl perspective hahahaha
I was so pleased to have some proper Sam talking about his feelings stuff but I gotta say it made me SO SAD every bit of it. Him assenting to Charlie's account of what happened in S9 as 'Dean did something that pissed you off, you said something that hurt him - BROTHERS!". Ugh. It makes me feel like nobody is ever ever ever going to validate Sam's feelings about what happened in S9. He's just going to end up being told that whatever he does in the rest of this season (and I honestly CANNOT COMPUTE what he could do that would be as invasive and grim as the Gadreel horrorshow) is "the same thing" and he will probably end up APOLOGISING to Dean for everything that he ever said in S9 about how the possession and the betrayal that enabled it made him feel. And the narrative will endorse it and everybody will nod sagely about how Sam 'lied to Dean in order to hurt his feelings' (SAME CIRCUMSTANCES, PEOPLE!!!!) and I will CRY FOREVER.
AND, yeah, Dean bringing up that 9x13 conversation ('I can't lose you?' 'Really?') made me so hopping mad INSTANTANEOUSLY and I haven't come down from it all week. Sorry but how long is he going to beat that dead horse? How much does Sam have to do or pay to show that he loves Dean? All of the love and support and kindness and sweetness that he's been showing all season, all of the care and effort to help Dean deal with and ultimately get rid of the Mark, all that nightmare with Dean's demon cure, and Dean throws it all back in his face. URRGHHHHHH! and MOREOVER it's the worst kind of hypocrisy because Dean's literally saying 'Don't do this thing which might help "save" me, but also, remember the time I got mad at you for saying you wouldn't do whatever it took to "save" me', all in the same breath. OH GOSH I am so bitter and mad hahahaah
finally
I'm so glad they explicitly addressed Dean's immortality but did you not think there was something bleakly hilarious about his plan to deal with this? 'Oh Sam you can just lock me down in the bunker like last time' - last time it took him LESS THAN 24 HOURS to break out and start chasing Sam with a hammer. THIS IS NOT A GOOD PLAN. (ALSO, even if it DID work and Sam found some kind of super secure demon lockdown spell, what happens when Sam ages and Dean never does? When Sam eventually dies, does he have to leave Dean to some unfortunate custodian (Cas, I guess??) like people leave parrots in their will?!!)
on a more positive note, I loved your shoutout to Gas N Sip Mickey, THE GLORY in human form hahahahaha
Sorry to come and bitter all over your very enjoyable and enriching commentary!! It was an interesting episode for sure but I don't know if I can forgive Dean for that comment any time soon... hmmmmmph
