I kinda loved Dean in Purgatory. I'm not spoiled, but I think maybe it gave Dean an option. If they fail to remove the Mark and it starts to overwhelm him, I can see Dean returning to Purgatory - a place where he can safely surrender control without casualties.

That's an interesting thought, but how would he get there without dying?
