And this reminds me of a story about What Is And What Should Never Be which you might have heard... When Tessa is possessed by the yellow-eyed demon Actually In My Time of Dying WIAWSNB is the first Djinn episode. On to commentary!
When they talked hand print, I thought Striga, who went after only children instead of siblings. I was wrong too, but they should have mentioned Striga, IMHO. Also they should have said they were from the CDC because that fit a mysterious illness better than FBI, but oh, well.
Bobby has a realtor's report on the house because, according to Rufus, you have to disclose who died in a house when you sell it. And I don't think that's true? But that's not even a handwave. Just a "whatever." Especially since it doesn't cover anyone who was attacked in the house and died en route to the hospital, but "whatever".
Sam and Dean don't quite understand how the earlier victims escaped if the soul eater was only trapped, not killed. And honestly, neither do I (handwave!). I'm pretty sure they are implying that Bobby would have been trapped in both cases, except Sam and Dean killed both Soul Eaters and released him. Why poor Harvey didn't make it is unclear, but I think that was the idea. Apparently being out of time and space only save Winchesters, friends of Winchesters and victims Winchesters and their friends are currently saving. The rest of the victims just move on, presumably to Heaven.
And here's the thing. If Bobby saw Dean in the nest, and he knows it exists outside of space and time, then he knows Dean must have been trapped after he was, right? Which means Dean probably survives the apocalypse? I'd think that would make him hopeful, not sad. But I'm probably missing something important. Well all it really proved was that at some time in the future Dean came back to this house. It could have been before Lilith broke the last seal. It could have been in season five when Dean was hunting with Cas and Sam was on his own. It could have been in season five before Swan Song. Since he never saw Sam, Dean could have been hunting after Sam went to the cage. Heck, if it was in the middle of season five, Dean might not have told Bobby about the hunt because he had bigger things on his mind.
I really did love this episode. It was creepy and actually scary, something that has been missing for a while. I love the brotherly connection and I love, love love Bobby and Rufus. Great episode probably with much foreshadowing that I don't want to think about.
