I mean, I can't believe it, but they made me like Metatron. IS THIS REAL LIFE? Because up to this point, the only times I liked seeing Metratron were when Sam was shooting him and taking his grace, and when Cas was punching him. Repeatedly. Yet... he's the hero here, with a really great speech, and I can't hate him anymore, Chuckdammit.
The plague made the whole Darkness/Cas thing they've been getting at make more sense to me, at least. Cas gives up and lets Lucifer in because he's been infected by the Darkness from his fight with Amara. He's acting just like all the infected townsfolk, all of his worst fears and negativity hitting and crippling him. He didn't outright kill Sam and Dean, but letting Lucifer in kind of similar, and sitting and brooding locked down inside... very similar. (I'm also thinking that Dean's guilt over kicking Cas out of the bunker in Season 9 is why he's so absolutely obsessed with saving him now.)
And oh, Sam's Darkness-induced fears about Dean abandoning him for Amara... and Sam trying to save people even if it kills him... Dean dragging him out of harm's way... and Dean's absolute giving up when Sam is dying... fuck re-duct-taping the door and saving other people, what's the point? I'mma just gonna breathe in the smoke and die with him.
Personally, I'm pretty happy with the idea of Sam having had the amulet all this time. I never could see him leaving it in the trash can, if only because it was a reminder of how he'd failed Dean... and by that same token, I could totally see him NEVER showing it to Dean (especially at the end of Season 10) because of that same guilt. It works very for me in terms of Sam's thought process and behavior, given how hung up he was at the end of Season 8 at the thought of letting his brother down. I doubt he had it in his jacket the entire time, but who knows? At the very least I could see him carrying it about in Season 11 in hopes of finding God.
And OH MY GOD Chuck, Sam looked so idealistic and innocent this whole episode, and so abso-fucking-lutely pretty. Sometimes he seemed almost childlike with his wide eyes, just trying to help everyone.
Not sure why God called the place BG's Canteen... but a BGS (Bundesgrenschutz) Canteen was a West German canteen used in WWII... in-joke maybe?
