How about something long and meaty?

Get your head out of the gutter. I'm talking fics. I don't post enough recs, and I'm trying to remedy that. So, here we go: four nice long fics to fill your free time while we wait for the S13 premiere.
z_publicizes has finished the epic tale Blood Will Out (LJ version and AO3 version) and it's just fucking fantastic. It hits so many of my buttons: emotional and physical trauma, MoC Dean, BAMF Winchesters, angst out the wazoo, spot-on internal dialog... and if none of those rock your boat, it's a gripping, beautifully written, novel-length casefic with a touch of noir. I really can't recommend it strongly enough. Here's a bit from the first chapter that got me hooked:
Dean looked at Sam, his skin washed out in that morgue light, drawn too tight over his bones. His bones, that Dean connected to the thought of a hammer, what could be done with a hammer, why he'd picked it out, blunt little instrument: could nail Sam's hands and feet to that goddamnfucking chair and see how he liked it, could shatter every remaining unbroken bone in his arms, his fingers, his kneecaps, shins, toes. He could draw it out for hours, days. Finish with the flame thrower, inch the open flame closer and closer to his brother's body and watch his skin redden, blister, crack, peel. It would've been symmetry or irony - my mother would still be alive if it wasn't for you - or some other literary conceit. He appreciated good literature, despite what Sam might think.
(Ah, there's another one of my buttons... Dean and his hammer...)
xparrot has started updating And In My Soul Am Free, one of my favorite speculative pre-S12 fics. Again, it pushes my buttons, with smart capable BAMF Sam, and physically/emotionally hurt Sam, and caring concerned Dean, and other things I don't want to talk about because spoilers.
And finally, let's talk about something you don't normally see from me: Wincest. I know I say I avoid it, and I usually do, because I just find it distractingly OOC. I can't see these boys falling into bed with each other. But once in a while someone makes it believable, like wrapping a raised-apart plot in bits of canon and pieces of other things and setting it in the 1800s, and it ends up as nigeltde's El Dorado and its sequel, Peregrine. The only downside is that it makes me want to spend the rest of my day speaking like a character from True Grit, and friends, that is a skill I do not possess.
