Jack doesn't feel anything . . .

Hmm. Well, he said he doesn't feel anything about having hurt people, most of the time. Well, that could be just an accurate observation of the normal human condition. We all feel bad about things we've done in the past, but not all the time most of the time, like Jack, we feel nothing. On the other hand, it could mean something. It could mean he doesn't have a soul. Now, Donatello doesn't have a soul, but when he finds himself at a moral crossroad, he just asks himself what Mr Rogers would do, so maybe this season's going to be about Jack choosing whose example to follow. Having said that, there are things that Jack clearly does care about: he cares about his mother, he cares about being accepted by the Winchesters. This implies he does have a soul. But, then, it could all be an act. But the scene with Mia suggests it isn't an act, because that was an outsider pov. Jack didn't need to pretend he cared about his mum with Mia.

Still, I think Jack does have to turn bad at some point, or at least make some really awful choices, or there'd be no drama. If he follows Sam's path, he'll then have to sacrifice himself to be redeemed. On the other hand, maybe having been through all this once, Sam and Dean will save the day by helping Jack to avoid making the choices that'll make that sacrifice necessary and, instead, he'll ride off into the sunset with the Wayward Sisters and become Cas.2 in the new show.

Re the 'gross but inconsistent' shape shifting: I just took it that Mia went away and sloughed as normal before returning to Jack as his mother and, although it may have seemed very quick to the viewer, I assumed there had been a passage of time that we just weren't shown.

I don't know how to predict Jack's eventually being either good or evil, because I'm not sure the writers are 100% sure about which way he will fall. I suspect they decided to see how Jack was received by fans with a plan A for if he was liked and a Plan B for if he wasn't. So far, most fans seem to really like him, so Plan A will come into play. If I have to guess, Jack will do some bad things, but his love of Sam will pull him back from the brink. This will be especially true if, as I suspect, Cas may not be our Cas. This is not a spoiler, just a hope because Empty Cas was a LOT more interesting than real Cas has been in forever.

I'm still not sure where we're heading for Jack, but if feels like they're all setting us up to love him, so I'm guessing something bad will happen (maybe he'll nearly go evil but then die saving the world, or he will go evil and it will hurt lots and lots!)

I only saw parts of this episode, but I read a lot about it. 'Cinnamon sociopath' is now one of my favorite descriptors ever. I figure (only speculation) that the other guy came back as Cas. But, as you put it, don't know, don't care, we got any grenades?

I loved:

That when Mia admitted that she was a shapeshifter Dean didn't just kill her there and then, but went to check her alibi. Not that I think that's something Dean would do, but it's definitely something I think the current writers think Dean would do! So I was pleasantly surprised! And how long ago has it been since we had a good monster - years? I loved that!

I checked Jack stays good and rides off into the sunset for two reasons:

1) There's no way Jack will want to stay in the Bunker with Sam and Dean forever when there's a whole world to explore. Since we're getting a sped-up version of his childhood, he'll be ready to move out at the end of the year.

2) You can absolutely write characters out - even permanently - without killing them! In fact that's more realistic - people leave all the time IRL.

Damn it! I have a brand new, top-of-the-line phone with fast wireless, and I still can't see the poll on my phone. In some cases, nothing shows up. AFAIK there are no spoilers for how Jack's arc is going to go, but my prediction based on nothing in particular is that he's either a) going to lose his powers and end up as boyfriend potential on Wayward Daughters (sisters? whatever?) b) going to save the Apocaverse (Kelly and Cas saw a future vision of him saving the world, but no one ever said which world...)

Mmmm, true - that's a good point. But it means he'll be lost to us in AU Land. :(
