IN WHICH I AM FULL OF FEELINGS

I didn’t expect Yahoo News to throw a bunch of Supernatural feels at me today. But first they hit me with this: A customer service rep at LAX (airport in Los Angeles, for my international friends) talks about celebrities who are nice and those who are not, and she says

“Jared Padalecki. Yes, he is that hot in person. He was a 12 out of 10, he was so freakin’ polite,” Cindy said. “He actually stopped to talk to me.” OF COURSE HE DID, CINDY.

And then the universe said BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE, and gave me THIS. ‘The Boys’ Casts Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy for Season 3. (This is the Yahoo story that grabbed my attention, but you can read the original version here.)

According to the article, “Soldier Boy is known as ‘the original superhero,’ who fought in World War II and became ‘the first super celebrity, and a mainstay of American culture for decades.’” Oh, in other words, CAPTAIN FUCKING AMERICA.





And what I wouldn’t give to complete the set…

Dare I hope that Jared does a year of Walker and then moves on to join Kripke and Ackles? Please???

(Also, is The Boys filmed in the US or Canada?)

I am so, SO happy for Jensen and I really want to see him act in something else! But... I am sorry to say it, I won't be able to watch him in this. I tried watching The Boys a couple of months ago, and I actually, actively despised it. Like truly hated it... well, I'll just have to wait for the next one, and hope I can enjoy Walker at least enough to get my Jared fix. I hope Kripke makes something I can watch again someday, too. I loved Timeless.

Well, granted that the pilot is often not representative of the rest of a series, and that was all I watched.... I read some reviews and message threads about it to see if it might get better from there, and it looked like it only gets worse. It was just so ugly and mean-spirited, unnecessarily gory in a way that goes for shock value--kind of ultimate feel-bad TV.

Have you tried it? I am curious if other Supernatural fans will like it (aside from Jensen being on it). It may be one of those places where I don't overlap with other SPN fans. Deadpool is another example in a similar vein; I didn't like that either and most SPN fans I know loved it.

I meant to say in my first comment that I looooove this Petite Madame art. Jared would be WONDERFUL as The Winter Soldier. THAT was my favorite-ever superhero move.

(I just came here because on the eve of our last run, I was missing the SPN family something fierce and I thought, which better place to go but your journal)
I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR THIS, HOLY CANOLI BATMAN, HOLD ON, MY PANTIES ARE ON FIRE.

I've incidentally just started watching The Boys (because another author recommended it, I didn't even know Kripke was in on it until like two post credits in). And I loved the first series, because it was such a different, gritty, intelligent, subversive take on the superhero culture and the thought project of what it might mean to WORK as a superhero in the real world with real world consequences.
I loathe the second season because they apparently thought it would be a good idea to take everything out that made the first one great and replace it with some mindless, gratuitous Micheal Bay shit that lit my hair on fire. (I'm also getting freaking annoyed with the fridged wifes - looking at you Walker, Texas Ranger - even with a twist. Is there nothing under the sun that we could employ for tragic backstory?) But this news will probably carry me through to at least starting the third season when it comes out, because the ACKLES is just too strong, and I can't miss him getting his Cap on.
Especially with the beard. Keep the beard for all that is holy, please and thank you.

Now, last night when I actually wrote this comment, LJ decided to eat it unrecoverably and I didn't have the energy to rewrite all my thoughts, but I just hope we can count on your recaps to carry us through the last run and I'll have somewhere to cough my considerable feels all over BECAUSE OUR SHOW IS ENDING AND IT'S GOOD BUT ALSO UNBEARABLE AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DEAL. And you help with that always. So I hope you feel up to it and I'll be here again soon. Cheers!
