Question you didn't ask--When Mrs. Butters first lays eyes on Jack and is suspicious she already has a shake ready for him. How did she know to be prepared?

2nd question you didn't ask--why didn't the boys figure out that yarrow and jawbone would have powered Jack down last season when he got all-powerful? Wouldn't that have been really nice to know back then?

(Also--when I rewatched I saw that Sam was tied to the chair with rope when Mrs. Butters was removing his fingernails.)

To be merciful to myself I have a headcanon that one the first shake Jack got from Mrs. Butters was just that, a lovely smoothie for the growing boy, the subsequent ones had that oomph in them. And two, I believe Mrs. Butters probably didn't list all the special ingredients because she wouldn't be bothered (and probably is used to 'her' boys getting where the recipe is going with the mention of that start) AND we never got to know just what kinda jawbone she put in there, I mean, normally that's not quite without consequence for spells, yes? Coulda been like, the pulverized jawbone of a Nepalese Yeti or something for all we know. It's not like the boys know even the half of what is in the bunkers supply closets, right? LOL.

How much do we care about this show to make up our own head canon when they miss things?!

I got the impression Mrs B didn't actually have to 'make' those smoothies. She seemed to be producing them out of thin air. I also got the impression that nymph magic is a separate thing from normal magic, rather like Dobby's magic being different (and more powerful) than normal wizard magic.

That is a reasonable explanation...I just wish the 'nymph magic' had been referenced a bit more specifically. She could have been adding that to Jack's shakes and that would have cleared up the question about why Sam and Dean didn't know about making them.

Waaaaaay too fricking much. But that's how we roll in the SPN fam and one of the things I love about us.

I just wanna leave this information here, which I only found out after I commented on the review, but that struck me as incredibly logical in hindsight - that the writer of this episode has only written a couple more overall for the show and one of them was... Scoobynatural (because he apparently also used to be a writer for Scooby in some form or fashion?), AND he said that when he first got the gig, he went through the show bible with a fine tooth comb and watched seminal episodes to get a feel for the show and cater to the things that were important to fans. Which... just about explains this whole episode from the ground up.

And now I'mma go have a good cry about the fact that this is the last nostalgic Winchester family episode we're ever going to get, which I thought too when I saw the synopsis but it hit me again and hard just now.

I have to admit when I saw some of the episode stills I was annoyed, because I felt like we didn't have time for an episode that doesn't move the story along. But this was really lovely and you're right, probably the last one like this that we're going to get.

Also, Sam coming home sans tie is a dead giveaway. ~insert Casa Erotica music here~

I think Easter was celebrated - the ham signaled it.

Obviously they couldn't have Mrs. Butters stick around to take on Chuck, because show reasons, but damn, that would have been cool. Especially if she knew a way to power him down!
