In sin and error pining

Sin #1: I did not wish septembers_coda a happy birthday in a timely manner. And I'll burn for that, as Dean would say.
Sin #2: I took the "Who is your Supernatural boyfriend" quiz (thanks to cassiopeia7) and ended up with Sam.
Which isn't a sin, right? I mean, this is the way the world is supposed to be, right? Except, the thing is, that test was SO easy to cheat. I mean, one question was whether I'd rather date a guy with a leather jacket, a trench coat, a trucker cap, or long hair. COME ON. So I may or may not have ended up with Sam if I'd answered the questions honestly. On the other hand, I don't feel the least bit guilty about this one at all, so is my confession more like a brag? OH WELL. SUCH IS LIFE.
(Dear God. He is so pretty in this pic.)
Sin #3: When I wrote my "what happens after the end of S9" fic, I carelessly gave Cas his wings back. Which flies in the face of canon (heh heh, see what I did there), and also raises problems with my follow-up. So I kind of need to undo that. Is that cool? Can I just go back and rewrite those parts of my story and say "never mind, that didn't happen?" Do people do that?
Sin #4: I'm not allowed to wear jeans and t-shirts to work except on special occasions, and today is not a special occasion. But I'm wearing them anyway. The jeans are velvet, not denim, and the t-shirt is kind of dressy, and I have a cute ruffly cardigan over it, but still. Morally, this is jeans and a t-shirt. That's me, the rebel, sticking it to The Man.
Sin #5: I'm writing this at work. Shhh.
So, what's my penance?
(BTW, if you don't recognize the title, it's from "O Holy Night," which is the Christmas carol I'm obsessively listening to this week.
O holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appeared and a soul felt its worth
Two very different, but both completely amazing versions, are by:
Straight No Chaser
and Weezer

As for retconning fic, I've never written anything that wasn't basically a one-shot, but I have wanted to edit previously posted fic for less legitimate reasons--so I mean, if you have a follow-up you want to write, and you want to do the edits, I'd say why not? I mean, the dude who wrote Naked Lunch republished an edited version of HIS ENTIRE DAMN BOOK (REAL BOOK!), so I figure on the Internet, it's only fitting of the medium, because we don't need to mastermind entire print runs, right??

Date: 2014-12-19 07:43 pm (UTC)Would a less legitimate reason be, for example, that it's the first fic I ever published and I think I could improve it? Cause I'm kinda feeling that too, on a different fic. :-/

LOL! I never heard about that. That's a ballsy move.

And yeah, ikr??? I don't think it was Naked Lunch he did it with (or maybe it was?) but Burroughs totally did that. And I mean like, Walt Whitman did that, too, multiple times. But Burroughs is a little more contemporary, so it just seems that much more strange. But if he can do it I feel like we're allowed to do it!

Rewrite the story from a different character's perspective (like a remix but you have to stick to the same details). Write a coda or epilogue that completely changes the end of your story, like, change a sad ending to a happy one or vice versa. Write the whole story in text messages or as a script.

Date: 2014-12-19 05:19 pm (UTC)Velvet jeans do not count as jeans, I'll just say straight out. Coincidentally, I am wearing a velvet shirt today. Together we make a full velvet outfit. ;-) I am wearing actual jeans, made of denim, with them. It's Friday so I'm OK, but I actually have several pairs of colored denim pants that are technically jeans, and I flout the no-jeans -at-work rule with them all the time and no one knows! I am such a rebel. ;-)
I think I, like kalliel, got Gadreel. I would totally cheat on the quiz to get Sam for my boyfriend.
I am also writing this at work. But if this is a sin, I am many times damned already. :-)
O Holy Night is my absolute favorite Christmas carol. <3 After reading your post, I sang it in the bathroom. Nice acoustics in there; I thought I sounded pretty good. But I only sang a verse and didn't go for the high note on the bridge.
Thanks for the fun post and birthday wishes. Enjoy your sinning! Reminds me of this comic:

I'd do worse. So much worse.

Oh, yeah. If it's a sin, I'm going straight to hell.

I have, like, no vocal range at all. Maybe half an octave. ;-) But I still love to sing this one. Loudly. In the car, where no one else can hear me.
OMG, that cartoon. SO funny.

Date: 2014-12-19 07:04 pm (UTC)Bah, humbug on retconning. If you dig what you wrote? Let it stand! BUT...if you wanna continue the fic where you left off and you're being canon-dependent, welp, you kinda gotta, right? Totally sup to you.
And that Weezer version of the song? I don't even care for Weezer and I've been listening to it ad nauseum. It is awesome. :D

Date: 2014-12-19 08:24 pm (UTC)Dude, I chose "geeky guys," spurned the cheeseburgers and STILL got Dean. IDEK.
I cannot TELL you how many times I've sinned the sin of wearing velvet jeans to work. And snickering. We're both going to burn together, bb. :)
