Things I loved about this episode:

1) manicorn-girl's mom was from Bugs!

2) SULLY HAD DEAN HAIR!!!!

OMG, you're totally right about Sully's hair.

LOL. It's like Sully was a different version of Dean, which is probably exactly what Wee!Sam would conjure up.

Sam in that brown cardigan did things to me!!! And who would have thought that. It was a brown old man cardigan.

If he'd been wearing glasses I would have worn my fingers to the bone capping it...

I kind of wonder - if Sully had actually conjured up presents / food that could be seen by others, how would John and/or Dean have reacted? (This is in reference to your comments about christmas presents and food, not just fanfic brain wanderings.)

Haha, I think that sadly, Sully would have ended up hunted. Especially since it was before Dean accepted any form of grey area and was still very much operating under the black and white monster/not a monster mindset taught by John.

On the food question, thinking about it, creations of the zanna are visible to their chosen child but not visible to anyone else (like everything else about the zanna) so if they conjured food whether it could then have nutritional value is moot, because whatever, the child is going to believe it's real, so maybe it would have a placebo effect.

And that is a very bad sentence I've written there. *sigh*

This is one of those things we should probably not think about too hard. :-)

Indeed. It's the SPN version of a Möbius strip.

Such a fun poll :)

I really liked this episode, well, loved most of it apart from the flashbacks but that's mostly because I can't stop seeing Colin Ford in my head when I think of wee!Sam so this was weird for sure.

"I can't stop seeing Colin Ford in my head when I think of wee!Sam so this was weird for sure."

Me too! He was so good as Sam and although this little actor was cute, apart from his eyes, he didn't look like Sam.

I saw this version of young Sam as a creepy back from the dead killer kid in The Returned over the summer and just couldn't buy him as Sam.

I haven't seen the US version of the returned but the little boy in the French original was super creepy! So I can imagine how you felt!

Yeah, I get why they did it, though. I mean, they have to still show kid flashbacks and the actors we know are simply getting too old for that but my brain still has a hard time accepting it.

It is difficult when all the kid actors have grown up! I did think Dylan's Dean looked too old to be 13 too, but he does such a great job as young Dean it's forgivable!

Remember, in the original script he was 16, and they changed the age after most of it was shot.

I don't remember what my imaginary friends looked like, but they were named Chrissy and Tubby, and they walked with me to grade school. So I definitely have a soft spot for stories about imaginary friends. Also, I think I checked all but two of the "things I loved about this episode," so there was a lot to enjoy!

I didn't tick Flashbacks as a favorite thing because, like you, I think they could have done better with casting Young Sam. They'll probably never be another Colin Ford, but still.

No-pajama!Sam, mmmmmmm.

We've definitely been spoiled by the perfect Samness of Colin Ford.

I loved the episode but I don't think Dean was a dick to Sully - well, he was a little at first, until he realised he was harmless and that he and the other zanna help kids. He was a little jealous too of Sam and Sully's bond.

I wonder what Dean's zanna would look like! I'm not sure if he'd be a Robert Plant lookalike or a Bionic Woman!

I should have left this comment on your episode post maybe but oh GOSH i loved this episode

HOT PROFESSOR CARDIGAN SAM SO SOFT AND CONCERNED

FLUFFY MORNING SAM (why does sam get up at 6.30 am when they have no work on, sam you crazy man)

A KIND FRIEND CHARACTER WHOSE WHOLE EXISTENCE WAS PREMISED AROUND HIS BEING SUPPORTIVE AND ADMIRING OF SAM this was literally the greatest thing i could have imagined. not only praising sam for being a hero but just being so openly considerate of his feelings. tiny baby sam's face when sully told him he was awesome <3 <3 <3

BABY SAM'S WEIRD TASTE IN FOOD sort it out love

sam so TINY and on the bus to MILWAUKEE oh gosh it just reminds you how small they were when john was treating them like tiny adults

i just loved it. i loved everything but i extra loved sully, for caring so much about sam and for being there for sam to talk to about his fear of going back to the cage. on the downside, i feel like the writers are buttering up the samgirls before the UTTER MISERY that will surely ensure when he does go back (which is starting to feel inevitable, to me as well as sam).

and oh GOSH the idea of an imaginary friend sam in or out of his fluffy sleepwear

CARAN NO IT IS TOO MUCH

I don't think Dean's being a dick to Sully was just jealousy -- there had to be a good deal of guilt in there too, even if he was following John's orders when he left Sam.

I agree. I think someone needing/being able to save Wee!Sam has to be hard on him, since that's his job.

The very name Sully was a Monsters, Inc. reference.

Loved this ep, and am loving this season... so far.

But that's why I expected Dean to say something about it, and if he did, I missed it.

I loved this episode, even more when I rewatched and ff'd through the flashbacks. I didn't have any problems with Dean's reactions, I found them really funny.

And KRIPKE loved it, so to me it is almost beyond criticism.

Your polls are one of my favorite things post-episode!

I'm not caring much about the hiatus. Bad fan, but overall I just don't care about Lucifer, the Cage, the Darkness, blah blah blah. They'll find some Taxi Driver way to get Sam in the cage and it won't be God (not spoilers, just conjecture). Yawn. I just want more Sam.

Oh, cuddy, my precious little Grumpy Cat. I hope you get all the Sam your heart desires. And that would be good for me, too. :-D

(Edited because autocorrect thinks you are cuddly which is probably true!)
