Okay, I'm not officially watching Walker, but I'm also not not watching it? Which means I've downloaded some episodes (eps 5-9) and watched most of them? I've skipped a lot of the parts that aren't Walker or his smoking hot brother (ha, Jared Padalecki and a hot brother, where have I heard that song before?) but I've still managed to come up with some thoughts. Spoilers below.

  • Seriously, that brother! (Damn, Liam, you shoulda kept the beard.)

  • Walker's son has a crush on a girl named Ruby?

  • I read they asked Jared to grow a beard to age him up, but honestly, he just looks so much younger with the shorter hair.

  • Younger and freaking hot.

  • Why is a bandanna tied around his wrist so goddamn sexy? WHY.

  • So a psychologist threatens to do something really, really inappropriate in order to teach her "headstrong" daughter a lesson, and that daughter is just like, "ha, okay Mom, you win, lesson learned?" Yeah no.

  • A woman is fingered for a hit and run based on DNA? How did she leave DNA at the scene? Did she abandon her car, and if so, wouldn't that be an easier way to catch her? And why did this fine upstanding citizen already have DNA on file?

  • A big-ass Texan is nicknamed Cordi by his family? Cordi? No. Cord, Dell, Bubba, maybe Cordy at best. But there is no way on God's green earth that anyone would have called him Cordi with a freaking I.

  • I hoped a show made by actual Texans would know how tornadoes really work, and they did better than most shows/movies (looking at you, Twister), but there was still some stupidity. Mostly (1) Gramma Walker was wearing a coat and a heavy scarf that day, and listen people, tornadoes are formed when it's humid and hot, and (b) a Ranger calls the hospital and says "we're in a tornado warning" and they say "cool, we'll set up a mobile hospital unit at the high school" NO, it does not work like that.

  • Jared is clearly not playing Sam and yet he has, at least once, used the Single Upraised Finger of Reason.

  • Let's stand here in the parking lot of the building we're staking out and have an argument about the stakeout. No one will notice.

  • That Juliet and Romeo-themed dance reveal was just a little on the nose, and also, please tell me no high school would really theme a dance around a play where two teenagers knew each other for like three days and six people died?

  • A woman just straight-up murders a suspect in front of law enforcement and then walks away.

So, some good stuff, some nonsense. But I will tell you that 1.09, while it included some nonsense, also included one of those scenes where I always say this, right here, this makes this whole episode worth watching. And it was the flashback where Cordell identifies his wife's body.

First, Cordell is dressed exactly like Sam Winchester.

Exhibit A

Next, we get his reaction when his friend asks if he's told the kids yet. Sadly, I could not find a gif of this, nor cap it clearly. You'll just have to imagine him closing his eyes, wincing, looking away.

But you don't have to imagine him seeing her body, reaching out with a trembling hand to touch her but holding back because when he does touch her she's going to be cold and he will no long be able to pretend she's just sleeping, falling to his knees, and then collapsing on her, sobbing. Because I have it all right here, stolen borrowed from aborddeimpala on Tumblr.

Exhibit B I'M FINE THIS IS FINE

You know what? Throw me all the ridiculous tornado-related nonsense you want. This makes up for it. This is a hit to the vein, right here.

Sometimes you need a still image to stare at.

And if you are watching... we all agree Gerri did it, right?

I LOVE YOU AND YOUR COMMENTARIES. Yes, to all of this! You've really gotta cherry pick the good stuff, but dang they're the tastiest cherries...

I think it was the two episodes before this one (I'll have to check) that were written by the same writing team and imho were the best of the season, re. dialogue and realative far-fetchedness. The show can be silly, but also thoughtful and charming in spots. And pretty much always eye-candy. :D

Oh thank god! I was just thinking, literally only yesterday, how am I going to be able to continue watching this arrant nonsense without even Caranfindel waxing facetious about the nonsense and pointing out the pretty to help me through it? But if you're going to keep doing these, there's half a chance I might be able to keep watching. No pressure mind! :P

I actually liked the tornado episode better than most, but then I don't come from Texas and know nothing about tornadoes. For me, it tracked better because there was no police case for the writers to write nonsense about. That just left the implausible elevator scene and the Romeo and Juliet reference that made me roll my eyes so hard I think they wound up on my nose. Also, was it just me, or did anyone else think that tree looked like it was humping Jared?

That was a hell of a scene in the morgue, but I spent it wondering what it must have been like for Jared to have to play a scene with Gen on a mortuary slab.

Yeah, the car park scene was totally inconspicuous. And I'm sure the way they handled the hostage situation wouldn't have got the hostage and half the officers instantly dead at all.

Yeah, probably Geri. After all, having her turn out to be the killer is the perfect way to stuff up the budding romance. Mind you, I'm not sure I trust Larry either.

You really don't know what it means to hear that people think about me...

Can you blame it?

I wonder if it's easier or more difficult for Jared to do these amazing someone-I-love-died scenes when the actor on the other side is someone he actually loves.

I had actually forgotten Sudden Tree Glomp, thank you for reminding me.

(Like, Walker is really bad. But I don't care that it's bad and might even be disappointed if it were good. It's nice being uninvested in something.)

That scene where Cordell saw Emily's body was the only scene in 9 episodes where I felt anything--and oh man, did it HURT! That's the Sam Walker I want to see...

And you are totally right that Liam should have kept the beard. I find his naked chin unnerving...

Oh lordy me, THANK YOU for this.
Cause I'd have liked to be watching Walker, but I've read reviews and I... don't think I can?

I've been transfixed by the blinding awesome that is Asian Dramaland since last summer, and I don't think my brain is wired anymore for western serials with JUST eye candy and a couple of scenes like the one above - which looks spectacular - every other odd episode. I'm sorry (but also, not).

So, if you want to continue doing this sporadic round up of Walker, I'd be more than delighted to watch the show through your eyes. Because your cutting-through-the-bullshit, right down to the narrative bone is still the best thing ever. Like, you're just the wittiest, most sarcastic, nerdiest gif-hound I know, providing a public service we cannot appreciate enough.
And I miss your musk.

(It's OK, of course, if you don't feel like doing more, just saying :) ) anyway, thanks, dear!

I'm kind of watching with one eye open and one hand on the FF button.

So glad to see your reaction post (and illos!).... I am finding Micki the most interesting character, but the eye candy is choice! And after hanging in through the last many years of SPN, I no longer expect TV episodes to be logical or believable or consistent or well-plotted, so whatever successes Walker can occasionally eek out on those things is just icing on the baked-good-of-your-choice!

I guess our internal standards did get recalibrated by 15 seasons of SPN... 😁

I am so happy to see you post!!!
I am loving Walker (feel free to steal/borrow any of my gifs over at jaredwalkertexasranger on tumblr)
Agree that the whole thing is highly implausible, but meh, I need something feel good and the cast is so so pretty.

I really enjoy the parent's story, which I didn't expect. It's so good to see Samuel Campbell ( I can't remember his real name 😬) and rare to have a show that gives the older parents a storyline of their own.
I honestly think Jared was right, when he said he could cast a show, because if Walker had been badly cast the show would have been entirely ridiculous 😅

I missed your snark and appreciation of our Jared.
I really think the SPN hair and make up team did Jared so dirty in S15, he literally looks 10 years younger here, and his hair looks so so good.
Anyway, pls continue 😊

❤️❤️❤️
The casting really is good. Grandpa Campbell is a surprisingly good Texan. And yes, Jared is beautiful and free from s15’s questionable hair styling choices.

I haven't been around much. But I must confess, Walker is not my thing. I haven't enjoyed it at all. Sorry!

I was sure it wouldn’t be my cup of tea, and I was mostly right. But for some reason, Jared Padalecki portraying physical or emotional pain does things to me.
